The 44-year-old opposition contender, Senegalese presidential candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye, took the oath of office.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the new town of Diamniadio, close to the capital Dakar, African leaders observed Faye take over from the immediate past president, Macky Sall.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of States and Governments and the president of Nigeria, was also there.

On the African continent, Faye is the youngest president to have been elected.
