
Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended an invitation to President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Remi Tinubu for a state visit to China in September.
On Friday, July 26, Tinubu accepted the offer in the hopes that it would improve bilateral ties between China and Nigeria as well as the proposed currency swap arrangement, according to a post by presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been invited by Chinese leader President Xi Jinping to make a state visit to China in September,” Onanuga said.
At the Aso Villa on Thursday, President Tinubu received the invitation from Chen Xiaodong, China’s vice minister of foreign affairs. Chen, who arrived with a sizable entourage, announced that First Lady Remi Tinubu would also be welcomed by President Xi during the visit.
Accepting the invitation, President Tinubu expressed the expectation that it will improve bilateral ties between China and Nigeria as well as the planned currency exchange arrangement.”
