With any luck, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will convene today to discuss important issues that attempt to address some of the nation’s most pressing issues.

Numbers of important state issues, including the contentious minimum wage dispute that has been raging between organized labor and the federal government, are anticipated to be discussed at the meeting.

President Bola Tinubu recently received the report from the tripartite committee that was established by the federal government.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), which comprise organized labor, have stated that labor will only accept N250,000, despite the federal government’s agreement to pay a minimum salary of N62,000.

Prior to implementing steps toward an executive law that will be submitted to the National Assembly, the meeting is anticipated to discuss the state of labor and what the government can afford to pay.

On May 13 and 14, 2024, the FEC held its final meeting. Previously, Mondays were the day on which the current administration’s Federal Executive Council sessions took place.

According to reports, President Bola Tinubu gave his approval for the FEC to be held on Mondays. Prior to the start of this administration, the president would preside over the weekly FEC meeting, which was attended by members of the cabinet and other senior aides to the president on Wednesdays.
