The Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) Head of Civil Service has been granted a six-month extension of employment, effective Wednesday, March 27, by President Bola Tinubu.

On March 27, 2024, a Wednesday, the new Head of Service for the Federal Capital Territory, Atang Udo Samuel, turned sixty years old.

The purpose of the extension is to stabilize the continuing process of realigning the FCT Civil Service Commission’s administrative structure, per a document retrieved and signed by the Chief of Staff and the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, Chidi Amadi.

The letter tagged: Re: Request for extension of service for the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT Administration, reads in part: “I am directed to refer to the above subject matter and to inform you that His Excellency, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has graciously approved the extension of your service for a period of six (6) months with effect from Wednesday, 27th March, 2024 when you would have attained the mandatory age of sixty (60) years.

“The extension of your service is premised on the need to stabilize and consolidate the ongoing processes to reposition the administrative structure of the FCT Administration occasioned by the recent inauguration of the FCT Civil Service Commission. Accept the assurances of the Hon. Minister’s regards, please.

Recall that a few weeks ago, President Bola Tinubu gave his approval for the appointments of a Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries in each of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s nine secretariats, and additional members of the FCT Civil Service Commission.

October 2023 saw the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, Nyesom Wike, declare that the Federal President had given his assent for the Federal Capital Territory’s Civil Service Commission to be established.
